Group A category — what it means
TCM Practitioner is Group A at VETASSESS:
- AQF Bachelor or higher in Chinese medicine / TCM (5-year program typical)
- Plus 1 year highly relevant employment within last 5 years
- Both acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine training expected
Qualification evidence
Submit:
- Bachelor / Master / OMD (Doctor of Oriental Medicine) certificate + transcript
- Course curriculum (5-year program with acupuncture + herbal + classical TCM theory)
- Origin-side registration (CTCMA Canada, NCCAOM US, BAcC + RCHM UK, mainland China registration)
- NAATI-certified translations (essential for non-English origins)
- Continuing professional development records (5+ years recent)
Clinical experience evidence
Each role:
- Practice / clinic / hospital employer letter
- Title — TCM Practitioner / Senior TCM Doctor / Clinic Practitioner
- Dates and FTE hours
- Patient throughput
- Modalities offered (acupuncture, herbal, tuina, cupping, moxibustion)
- Specialty area (general, fertility, paediatric, pain management)
For mainland China hospital experience:
- Hospital letter with seal
- Translated and certified
- Internship / residency evidence
English requirement
VETASSESS does not assess English directly for 252214. CMBA registration requires:
- OET — grade B each component
- IELTS Academic — 7.0 each band
- PTE Academic — 65 each
For mainland China-trained candidates, English preparation is usually the longest-pole item. Plan 12-18 months for OET / IELTS prep.
CMBA registration sequence
Post-VETASSESS + visa grant:
- Apply for CMBA registration via AHPRA online (TCM Practitioner division)
- Provide qualification + clinical evidence + English test
- Pay registration fee (~AUD 350-500 first year)
- Possible Supervised Practice for non-recognised pathways
Common reasons assessments fail
- Acupuncture-only training submitted. Need acupuncture + herbal medicine — that's full TCM scope
- Short-course herbalism only. Need degree-level training
- Translation / verification gaps. Mainland China candidates: NAATI-certified translation + qualification verification essential
- English test too low. OET B / IELTS 7.0 each is non-negotiable
