Reference letters

- Signed by a senior person (Owner / Regional Manager / GM / HR Director) with their position
- Dated within 3 months of lodgement
- Specific about your dates of employment (DD/MM/YYYY format)

Duties to evidence
Map your reference letters to all of these where they apply:
- Operations management — daily operations, bookings, swim school, group classes, casual entry
- Financial management — annual budget, admissions, memberships, programs, café
- Workforce management — lifeguards, swim teachers, sport instructors, reception, cleaners, maintenance — including Royal Life Saving qualifications, AUSTSWIM, AUSactive credentials

Common rejection patterns
"Lifeguard / supervisor, not manager"
Single-shift lifeguard or pool supervisor work without P&L / staff hiring authority may be assessed at a lower skill level.
"Title without substance"
Generic descriptions of "running the centre" without specific facility scope, FTE, member counts, or financial figures get downgraded.
"Less than 20 hours per week effective"
Part-time or fractional roles may be discounted.
The five-year window
VETASSESS counts post-qualification employment at the required skill level within the last five years from the date of application.
