RACS Specialist Pathway sequence
- Application + qualifications + experience + procedure logbook
- RACS Specialist Assessment with plastic surgery endorsement (6-12 months)
- Outcome: Substantially Comparable / Partially Comparable / Not Comparable
- Medical Board Specialist Registration
- 12 months supervised practice (Substantially Comparable)
- FRACS + Plastic Surgery Fellowship granted
- ASPS membership post-arrival
Qualification evidence
Submit:
- Primary medical degree (MBBS / MD / equivalent) certificate + transcript
- Plastic Surgery Fellowship (FRCS Plast UK, FRCSC, ABPS US, etc.)
- Origin-side specialist registration
- CCT in Plastic Surgery
- Continuing professional development records (5+ years recent)
Procedure logbook
Critical evidence:
- Reconstructive cases (breast, lower limb, head and neck)
- Hand surgery cases (with hand fellowship if applicable)
- Burns cases
- Cleft / craniofacial cases
- Microsurgery / free flaps
- Cosmetic / aesthetic case mix
- Complication rates / outcomes
Clinical experience evidence
Each role:
- Hospital employer letter
- Title — Consultant Plastic Surgeon / Senior Plastic Surgeon
- Dates and FTE hours
- Sub-specialty (reconstructive, hand, burns, cleft / craniofacial, cosmetic)
For locum / agency:
- Agency letters
- Hospital reference letters
English requirement
RACS + Medical Board requires:
- OET — grade B each component
- IELTS Academic — 7.0 each band
- PTE Academic — 65 each
Common reasons assessments stall
- Cosmetic-only profile. RACS requires reconstructive scope evidence
- Procedure logbook insufficient. Need comprehensive case numbers
- Origin-side registration restrictions. Unrestricted essential
- English test too old. Test must be valid (typically 2 years for OET)
