RACS Specialist Pathway sequence
- Application + qualifications + experience + procedure logbook
- RACS Specialist Assessment with otolaryngology endorsement (6-12 months)
- Outcome: Substantially Comparable / Partially Comparable / Not Comparable
- Medical Board Specialist Registration
- 12 months supervised practice (Substantially Comparable)
- FRACS + Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery Fellowship granted
- ASOHNS membership post-arrival
Qualification evidence
Submit:
- Primary medical degree (MBBS / MD / equivalent) certificate + transcript
- ENT Fellowship (FRCS ORL-HNS UK, FRCSC OTO, ABOto US, etc.)
- Origin-side specialist registration
- CCT in Otolaryngology
- Continuing professional development records (5+ years recent)
Procedure logbook
Critical evidence:
- General ENT (tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy, grommets)
- Otology (mastoidectomy, ossiculoplasty, cochlear implant)
- Rhinology (FESS, septoplasty)
- Head and neck oncology
- Paediatric ENT
- Complication rates / outcomes
Clinical experience evidence
Each role:
- Hospital employer letter
- Title — Consultant ENT Surgeon / Senior ENT Surgeon / Head and Neck Surgeon
- Dates and FTE hours
- Sub-specialty (otology, rhinology, H&N, paediatric, facial plastics)
For locum / agency:
- Agency letters
- Hospital reference letters
English requirement
RACS + Medical Board requires:
- OET — grade B each component
- IELTS Academic — 7.0 each band
- PTE Academic — 65 each
Common reasons assessments stall
- Procedure logbook insufficient. Need comprehensive case numbers
- Origin-side registration restrictions. Unrestricted essential
- English test too old. Test must be valid (typically 2 years for OET)
