Skills assessment process

ASMIRT process for radiation therapy:

1. Submit application
2. Pay fee (~AUD 600-1,200)
3. Submit qualification + clinical evidence
4. Sit English test (if not exempt)
5. Receive outcome

Qualification evidence

Submit:

• Bachelor or Master in Radiation Therapy / Therapeutic Radiography certificate + transcript
• Course outline showing modalities trained on (linac, brachytherapy, treatment planning)
• Clinical placement records (typically 1500+ hours)
• Professional registration certificate (HCPC TR / NZMRB / ARRT (T) / CAMRT-T)
• Continuing professional development records (5+ years recent)

Clinical experience evidence

Each role:

• Cancer centre / hospital employer letter
• Title — Radiation Therapist / Senior RT / Lead RT / Treatment Planner
• Dates and FTE hours
• Linac systems operated (Varian, Elekta, Accuray) — model specifics
• Techniques delivered (3DCRT, IMRT, VMAT, IGRT, SRS, SBRT, brachytherapy)
• Patient throughput (anonymised case mix)
• Treatment planning system experience (Eclipse, Monaco, RayStation, Pinnacle)

For locum / agency work:

• Agency letters
• Hospital reference letters
• Compiled FTE summary

English requirement

ASMIRT / MRPBA requires:

• OET — grade B each component (most popular)
• IELTS Academic — 7.0 each band
• PTE Academic — 65 each
• TOEFL iBT — refer to current cutoffs

Supervised Practice (where applicable)

Supervised practice may be required for some non-recognised pathways. Typical 6-12 months on arrival.

Common reasons assessments fail

• Insufficient clinical hours. Bachelor without 1500+ supervised clinical hours rarely passes
• Modality range too narrow. Pure 3DCRT delivery without IMRT/VMAT evidence may be flagged as below current scope
• English test too old. Test must be valid (typically 2 years for OET)
• Missing CPD records. Recent CPD trail expected
• Treatment planning evidence absent. Even if you didn't plan, evidence of plan checking / verification helps
