The evidence pack
Reference letters
Each employer reference letter should be:
- On official letterhead of the club / gaming venue
- Signed by a senior person (Board Chair, CEO, COO, HR Director) with their position
- Dated within 3 months of lodgement
- Specific about your dates of employment (DD/MM/YYYY format)
- Specific about your title — General Manager / CEO / Operations Manager
- Specific about scope (member count, gaming machines, F&B outlets, FTE, annual revenue)
- Specific about hours per week (full-time)
- Detailed about the duties — mapped to the ANZSCO task profile
Duties to evidence
Map your reference letters to all of these where they apply:
- Strategic leadership — annual strategic plan, board reporting, AGM
- Gaming compliance — state liquor and gaming regulator interactions, responsible gambling programs, machine reconciliation, daily cash management
- F&B and entertainment — multi-outlet management, events, brand partnerships
- Membership — recruitment, retention, member privileges, governance compliance
- Financial management — annual budget ownership (often AUD 5M-100M+), capex planning, capital works
- Workforce management — direct reports (typical 8-15 HODs), Registered and Licensed Clubs Award compliance
- Community engagement — sponsorship, charity programs (Mounties Care, Panthers Group community programs etc.)
Supporting evidence
Beyond the reference letters, attach:
- Tax records confirming employment
- Salary slips for the period
- Employment contract showing your appointment terms
- Org charts showing your reporting line and team
- Sample club P&L summaries (anonymised)
- Liquor / gaming licensee certificates (where named)
- Performance reviews
- Industry certifications (RSA, RSG, Approved Manager / Liquor Licensee equivalent)

Common rejection patterns
"FOH / supervisor, not manager"
Single-shift FOH or gaming-floor supervisor work without P&L / governance authority may be assessed at a lower skill level.
"Title without substance"
Generic descriptions of "managing the club" without specific member counts, gaming machine numbers, annual revenue, or financial figures get downgraded.
"Family / single-shareholder venue"
VETASSESS scrutinises owner-operator cases. Provide club registration, audited financials, board minutes, statutory declarations from non-related staff.
"Less than 20 hours per week effective"
Part-time or fractional roles may be discounted.
The five-year window
VETASSESS counts post-qualification employment at the required skill level within the last five years from the date of application.
