Group A category — what it means
Education Reviewer is Group A at VETASSESS:
- AQF Bachelor or higher in education / educational leadership / curriculum studies / educational psychology
- Plus 1 year highly relevant post-qualification employment in inspection / review / QA at appropriate skill level (last 5 years)
Qualification evidence
Submit each level separately:
- Bachelor degree certificate + transcript (BEd / BA Education / BSc Education)
- PGCE / Cert Ed (if applicable)
- Master's / Doctorate (M.Ed, EdD, PhD) certificate + transcript
- Specialist inspector / reviewer training certificates (Ofsted, ISI, Estyn, equivalent)
Employment evidence
Each review role needs:
- Employer letter on regulator / system letterhead, signed by HR or line manager
- Title — "Education Reviewer" / "School Inspector" / "Quality Reviewer" / "QA Officer"
- Dates start and end
- Hours per week and FTE
- Scope — schools / providers reviewed per year, framework used (Ofsted EIF, ACECQA NQS, etc.)
- Duties — inspection planning, evidence gathering, evidence weighting, report drafting, judgement calibration, follow-up monitoring
If you are a freelance / contract inspector, secure letters from each contracting authority confirming the work scope.
Duties — what to demonstrate
ANZSCO 249112 task list (paraphrased):
- Inspecting and reviewing teaching, learning, and school management
- Evaluating educational programmes against quality standards / frameworks
- Producing inspection / review reports with judgements and recommendations
- Discussing findings with school leadership and follow-up monitoring
- Contributing to framework development and inspector calibration
Hit at least 3-4 explicitly.
Pivot check — 241xxx if classroom-qualified
Same logic as 249111. If you hold QTS / state teacher registration and have substantive teaching in last 5-10 years, AITSL → 189 is usually faster.
English requirement
VETASSESS does not assess English directly for 249112. Visa stage:
- 482 / 494 / 491 / 190 / 186: minimum Competent (IELTS 6.0 each band)
- Points-test visas: higher English = more points
Most reviewers score Proficient or Superior given the writing-intensive nature.
Common reasons assessments fail
- Inspection scope not specific. Numbers of schools, framework used, and reporting authority all required
- Review work mixed with teaching. Distinguish FTE clearly per role
- Self-employment evidence too thin. Letter from contracting authority is essential — not just self-issued
- Generic education credentials. Bachelor in History + a few inspections rarely passes — need education-specific qualification
